Second Stage Development Plans

To meet the growing demand in the hinterland and trade, Kamarajar Port has initiated action for developing the following terminals through BOT/Captive basis.

1. Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Import Terminal of 5 MTPA on Captive basis

v      IOCL had identified Ennore as a possible location for a LNG terminal and had carried out a Feasibility Study for setting up the LNG Terminal with regassification facilities.

v    Indian Oil Corporation Limited in joint venture will develop an LNG Terminal at Kamarajar Port at an investment of Rs.4512 crores with a capacity of 5 MTPA for Storage and Regasification of liquefied natural gas. and engineering study.

v  The Union Cabinet approved leasing of land of Kamarajar Port Ltd for a liquid gas (LNG) import terminal being built by the joint venture led by IOC in which IOC will hold majority stake.

v     IOCL has obtained necessary environment clearance from MOEF and is in the process of selection of EPC contractors.

v      Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between IOCL and  KPL for development of LNG terminal at Kamarajar Port on 01.03.2014.

2.  Development of Container Terminal of 1.40million TEU on DBFOT basis.

v  To cater the future growing container traffic needs, Kamarajar Port has decided to undertake the proposed development of Container Terminal through Public Private Partnership on Design, Finance, Operate and Transfer basis.

v   The length of the proposed terminal is 730m with an estimated capacity is 1.40million TEUs at an estimated Project cost of Rs.1270 Crores.

v   Letter of Award has been issued to the successful bidder M/s.Adani Port & Special Economic Zone Pvt. Ltd., Gujarat for the development of Container Terminal.

v   The construction work is expected to commence from October 2014.

    3.  Development of Multipurpose Cargo Terminal on DBFOT basis:

v     To meet the EXIM traffic of Bulk and Project Cargos like Turbine & Generators, windmill etc., imports of Fertilizer/ wooden logs, it is planned to develop a terminal on DBFOT basis.

v     The length of the proposed terminal is 270m with an estimated capacity of 2.00 MTPA at an estimated project cost of Rs.151 Crores

v     LOA has been recently issued to the successful bidder Consortium of M/s.Chettinad Builders Pvt.Ltd and South India Corporation Pvt. Ltd., Chennai for Development of Multi Cargo Terminal

v      The construction work is expected to commence from October 2014.

    4.  Additional Coal Berth for TNEB of 9 MTPA on Captive basis

v      Considering the expansion of the existing thermal power plants of TNEB and new TNEB - NTPC JV project, TNEB had requested EPL to establish additional coal berths.

v      KPL has awarded the contract for construction of Coal Berth-3 with a capacity of 9 MTPA at a contract value of Rs.198.95 crores in December 2013.

v      The construction work will commence shortly and the scheduled commencement of operations will be from second quarter of 2016.

   v      Wharf top side equipments will be installed and operated by TANGEDCO.
